Miscellaneous
- Google started trading today. Went public at 85, closed around 100. I'd take the profit.
- You know those emails you get with hot stock tips which are obviously from charlatans pumping-and-dumping? The SEC reports that some people are getting answering machine messages from someone pretending to have dialed a wrong number. Slightly more slick, but they played the message on the Nightly Business Report, and I'm surprised anyone falls for it.
Incidentally, if I short one of those stocks after it's moved up a bit, am I guilty of anything? Since the scams usually involve penny stocks, I assume they'd be hard to borrow, but I'd still be interested to know.
- Oil is expensive. Yes, you knew that, but even more so: $48.75, I believe I saw. Domestic inventories were down significantly last week, but imports were up a little. For what it's worth.
